Broke my train habit and flew to DC on tiny little twin prop aircraft that seemed to rock everytime I crossed my legs. Spent the day walking all the main monuments and sites, embarrassingly I came across the White House from the rear and saw the sign saying this is the White House, but didn't recognize it. I asked the guy in the patrol office if this was the actual White house where the president lived and he said yes (looking very surprised) and I said it looks different to how does on the TV, he said I needed to go round the front......duh!
The Jefferson monument was easily the most interesting and the museum in the basement gave a great abridged version of why he was so famous and enlightened, the meaning of the term, aswell as understanding why he was so influential and visionary for his time were to be one of the highlights of the day. He was the third President of the United States and the principal author of the Declaration of Independence – no more history from me on this matter! Everywhere I walked I had this uneasy feeling that Josh Lyman and Tony Ziegler were going to jump out behind a bush and maul me (only you West Wing fans will get that!)
Before I knew it I was in Union Station and browsing a Colon Disease exhibition in the lobby that consisted of a huge inflatable colon that you could walk through and start to self diagnose all the key problems with you guts.....I made a mental note to eat more fibre and greens on my trip.
